Sitting here waiting for the show to start, I’m thinking about all the shows I mixed this year. Amphitheaters, festival stages, county fairs, clubs, graduation ceremonys, private parties, and then there is the Applegate River Lodge. This place is an island. A green Mecca nestled next to a river in a meandering valley populated by ranchers, farmers, rednecks, rich rurals, hippies, and burgeoning wine and marijuana industries.

The stage sits empty, but soon it will be filled with music fans spinning and jiving to some groovy bluegrass funk. Though no alcohol is permitted in the music hall (the lodge lobby), the smell of sweat and TCH will fill the room, and the projections and light will throb the crowd into a mesmeric frenzy. Good times, for sure!

Lucky for me, the band brought their own sound crew and gear, including an Avid SC48, so I just had to patch in mics and pack up after show. Piece of cake, I’m going to enjoy this night!

Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon is opening the show, followed by his son, Silas Herman and his band Gipsy Moon, and the headliner, Yarn. I’ve worked with Vince and Silas before, but haven’t heard the two bands. I love new band experiences, and watching another audio engineer work.
